According to a report, Jonathan Nolan wants to create a small-screen series based on Isaac Asimo's Hugo Award-winning Foundation trilogy of novels.
Kicking off with original novel of the same name , the Foundation trilogy centers on genius mathematician Hari Seldon, who has devoted his life's work to the development of a scientific concept called psychohistory. Through usage of this method, Seldon is able to predict the imminent fall of the Galactic Empire that governs humanity, a toppling that will be followed by 30,000 years of anarchy and despair before a new empire rises. However, Seldon posits that an alternative path forward could lead to the much quicker formation of a new governing empire, and sets out to gather a group of the galaxy's most creative and intelligent minds that will serve as the foundation of humanity's uncertain future.
The original Foundation book was followed by sequels Foundation and Empire and Second Foundation, tomes which served to further expand and continue Seldon's journey. A few decades later, two additional novels were added to the series, entitled Foundation's Edge and Foundation and Earth, as well two prequels that set out to tell the story that led to Foundation. The initial trilogy is generally regarded more highly than the follow-ups, though, and Nolan is said to be basing the Foundation TV series exclusively on those three books.
